recognized everywhere as "The Expert" on Lake Lanier, he has also become
well-known as a writer and photographer. His byline and photography have
appeared in numerous national publications including, Field and Stream,
Sports Afield, Road and Track, Bassin', and North American Fisherman. He has
been the Georgia Editor for Outdoor Life Magazine, Outdoor Editor for The
Gwinnett Daily News and The Gwinnett Post Tribune, has often written in the
Gwinnett Daily Post, The Forsyth County News, The Times (Gainesville), and
others. He is also the Travel Editor for Lakeside on Lanier and Allatoona,
and appears monthly in other outdoor and travel related publications
nationwide and on the world wide web. Vanderford's efforts and love of
nature have earned him many writing and photography awards from the state to
national level.

FISHING IMPORTANT TO THE NATION?
Fishing has enormous social, cultural, and economic importance in American society, and is the second most popular form of outdoor recreation in the United States with swimming being first). Particularly for children, fishing provides an opportunity to learn about the environment and develop a natural resource stewardship ethic. Nearly 50 million Americans 6 years and older fish. The 1991 National Survey of Fishing, Hunting and Wildlife Associated Recreation estimated anglers spent $24 billion on tackle, equipment, food, lodging, and other goods and services related to fishing.
